Yarb - Ancestral Thread & Rooting in Place
Yarb is an extension of our heart and has become our way of creating what we desire in this world. Using the word Yarb has been a way of orienting toward a sense of belonging to place and weaving a connective thread to our past ancestors who like many Ozarkers come from the Scottish/English border. It is our belief to truly connect to this land is to acknowledge the wounding of our genocidal past upon indigenous peoples, as well as, actively participating in reparations and lifting up indigenous voices. The land we call home and where we grow and make medicine is on unceded Osage territory. The Ozarks were home to many tribes including Osage, Caddo, Quapaw. A Yarb Doctor's treatments were a mixture of their own folk traditions with indigenous knowledge. From our own studies of folklorists, Vance Randoplh and Mary Parlor, is how we learned about Yarb. Sun Keeper face serum will soon become a staple in your daily skin routine. It is light textured slow whole-plant infused serum suitable for all skin types. Calendula and Chamomile are infused in a blend of carrier oils made up of apricot kernel, rosehip seed, and pomegranate seed. We organically grew the clary sage from seed and being a biennial we patiently awaited for its bloom in their second year. The bees and hawk-moths sing their praises and the smell excreted at dusk is truly divine. The essence of the plant is captured through the alchemical process of distillation using a copper alembic still. We harvest the fresh clary sage and immediately load the still and craft the hydrosol right on the creek. Our small batch hydrosols are not a by-product meaning they are undiluted and contain trace amounts of essential oil. Reishi was traditionally called the ‘mushroom of immortality’ and overall increases one's vitality. We make a dual extracted tincture from wild mushrooms sustainably harvested in the Western Carolina Mountains. The species harvested was Ganoderma Tsugae and dried in the sun to increase Vit D2 content. We like to envision mushroom medicine working in the body in the same way the mycelia network functions in a forest; Simply put, the mycelium is the communicator between the plants and trees. This pattern is reflected in the way it restores parts of our bodies which are disconnected and not functioning properly.
